The Dubai International Financial Centre is a federal financial free zone — a jurisdiction within Dubai that operates under its own legal framework, regulatory authority, and building approval process. DIFC is not governed by Dubai Municipality in the same way as the rest of Dubai. Interior fit-out and design works within DIFC require approval from the DIFC Authority — the free zone's own regulatory body — rather than the standard DM process that applies elsewhere in the emirate.
DIFC comprises the Gate District — the original development around the iconic Gate Building — and a growing number of surrounding commercial towers, residences, and the Gate Avenue retail and dining destination. The tenant mix is predominantly financial services, legal, professional services, and high-end hospitality — clients with exacting standards and zero tolerance for project delays or cost overruns. Interior finishes in DIFC offices typically reflect the premium positioning of the businesses operating within them.
RNM has delivered commercial interior design and fit-out across DIFC for over a decade — financial services offices, law firm environments, restaurant and F&B fit-outs on Gate Avenue, and residential apartments in DIFC's living districts. Our team is fully familiar with the DIFC Authority submission requirements and the specific technical standards that apply within the free zone.

RNM confirms your unit's location within the DIFC free zone boundary and identifies the correct approval pathway. Works within DIFC require DIFC Authority approval — not Dubai Municipality. Some peripheral buildings near DIFC may fall under DM jurisdiction — we clarify this at the initial consultation to prevent submission to the wrong authority.
DIFC buildings — Gate Building, ICD Brookfield Place, Index Tower, and others — each have specific technical standards for MEP, fire strategy, and structural works. RNM reviews your building's technical requirements before design begins, ensuring the design complies with both DIFC Authority guidelines and your specific building's management requirements.
RNM produces the full DIFC Authority submission package — fit-out drawings, MEP schematics, fire strategy documentation, and all supporting technical documents formatted to DIFC Authority standards. The submission package is more technically detailed than standard DM submissions, reflecting DIFC's premium building standards.
RNM submits the complete fit-out application to the DIFC Authority on your behalf — drawings, contractor details, insurance certificates, and all documentation required under DIFC's fit-out regulations. Building management NOC application is submitted simultaneously to avoid programme delays.
The DIFC Authority reviews the submission and issues approval, technical queries, or rejection. RNM monitors the application, responds to DIFC Authority queries within 24 hours, and resubmits with revisions if required. DIFC Authority approvals typically take slightly longer than DM approvals due to the more detailed technical review process.
On completion, the DIFC Authority conducts a final inspection to confirm works were carried out per the approved drawings. RNM coordinates and attends the inspection, manages any snagging, and obtains the DIFC fit-out completion certificate — included in your handover pack alongside as-built drawings and warranties.

Answers to the questions DIFC tenants and business owners ask us most often before starting an interior design or fit-out project.
DIFC operates as a federal financial free zone with its own regulatory authority — the DIFC Authority. Interior fit-out works within DIFC require DIFC Authority approval, not standard Dubai Municipality permits. This is one of the key differences between working in DIFC and the rest of Dubai — and why experience specifically within DIFC matters when choosing a fit-out contractor.
DIFC Authority approvals typically take 3 to 5 weeks from submission — slightly longer than standard DM approvals due to the more detailed technical review process. RNM submits complete, correctly formatted packages first time — our familiarity with DIFC's submission requirements minimises delays caused by incomplete applications.
DIFC office fit-out typically ranges from AED 350 to AED 650 per sq ft for a full Category B fit-out, reflecting the premium specification expected in the financial district. A 3,000 sq ft office typically ranges from AED 1.05M to AED 1.95M. RNM provides a fixed-fee proposal after reviewing your space and brief. See our cost guide.

Yes. RNM delivers full restaurant and F&B interior design and fit-out for Gate Avenue and DIFC's dining district. Hospitality projects in DIFC require DIFC Authority approval alongside food establishment approvals — all managed in-house by RNM.
